January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

Cyalume Medical Cervical Cancer Awareness Month (January) concept with teal and white awareness ribbon. Colorful vector illustration for web and printing.

According to the National Cervical Cancer Coalition, more than 14,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer each year, but the disease is preventable with vaccination and appropriate screening. At Cyalume, making strides to enhance medical screenings for women is our main priority. It drives our motivation and was the impetus for the SpecuLume EZ, our single use, illuminated speculum.

How does the SpecuLume improve screenings during exams?

  • Greater visibility. The SpecuLume EZ offers providers brilliant diffused intravaginal illumination with the use of chemiluminescent technology. It also has a larger user opening to give more visual access and room to utilize instruments. This means that the provider gets a better, clearer view of the exam area which means screenings are more thorough. The light can be placed on the upper or lower blade allowing more flexibility with the light source.
  • More comfort. Instead of clunky and archaic speculum designs that have garnered complaints from patients and providers, the SpecuLume EZ is specifically designed to create a more comfortable exam experience. It boasts silent elevation instead of an annoying ratcheting noise. Additionally, the handles are angled away from the patient to add more distance between them and the clinician’s hands.
  • One and done. Because our SpecuLume EZ is a single-use device, there is no risk of cross-contamination from patient-to-patient. It’s used once and tossed along with any germs on it.
  • No harmful chemicals. The brilliant, diffused illumination does not contain any harmful chemicals and does not produce any heat. The patient’s safety and comfort are a top priority.

The SpecuLume EZ is revolutionizing women’s healthcare and improving the whole exam experience for both patients and providers. Along with all of the benefits for exam purposes. It’s also environmentally friendly and recyclable.

Don’t forget to make yourself and your health a priority this year (and every year).

Happy New Year!
